A Client's "About Me" Page: A Satisfying Assignment

I recently had the opportunity to write an "About Me" biographical page for one of Web Content Provider's clients. Using the client's comments, his answers to a questionnaire and some online research, I put together a page of information discussing him and the business that's the subject of his website. I was able to tell the client's story, explain how he works with his clients and discuss the services he provides.

This was an especially satisfying assignment. Learning how and why someone goes into a particular line of work intrigues me, and writing the biography lets me use my creative skills to turn that information into a narrative promoting that person's business. This was one of my favorite assignments!

The Appeal of Writing Web Content

Writing web content appeals to me for several reasons.

I enjoy seeing my words in print. I get a lot of satisfaction out of knowing that what I’ve written will answer someone’s questions, or help someone make a decision, or lead a reader to discover more about the world.

As a writer, I know that the best way to learn about a subject is to write about it. Working for Web Content Provider lets me explore subjects that otherwise might never enter my consciousness — what fun!

I especially working on content related to healthcare. At one time, I worked for an advertising agency. Most of the clients in my portfolio were hospitals, and much of my writing addressed nurses and allied health professionals. I’m very proud of my work for that market, and I bring the same standards to my work for Web Content Provider.

Newest Scam Targeting Writers

I received a notice via LinkedIn that a company was looking for writers:

"We are looking for content writers (with English proficiency), can pay up to $25 per article depending up on the subject and quality. http://bit.ly/s219MK"

Being curious, I followed the link. Here's my first response, which I posted in LinkedIn:

"Really? I'm sure that if you're paying $100 to $500 for an article or story, you will be inundated with applicants. I was tempted to respond to your linkedin notice that we might be able to help you, but after seeing that ad...I must say alarm bells went off and all I saw was another get-rick-quick scam similar to "stuff envelopes for $1000 a week!"

I you're legit you contact me and we'll discuss it. But...my writers and I (all English as first language) get paid in advance for any work ordered.

Then I decided to investigate a bit further. Here's my second response:

WARNING! I went to the site and started the process to join, wanting to check it out. Sure enough. After a lot of vague, over the top, promises of available jobs and "free" tools, you only have to pay $2.95 to join!

That's not all. It gets better. After the 10-day trial period for which you are charged $2.95, your credit card will then be charged $47 a month...until you cancel.

Let me tell you something, folks! If you have to pay, it's a scam! For a real writing job you will NEVER have to pay a penny!

RUN AWAY from this attempt to get gullible and desperate writers to fork over their hard-earned money

Folks, please don't fall for this obvious scam. You won't get any work...what you will get is a lot of empty promises and much poorer.
