National ID for Internet Users Proposed

So the Government (White House) is proposing a National ID for those who do business on the internet...for the safety of all.

You know there's just something about the Government wanting to "watch my back", have one location for IDs and passwords, that just sounds a bit "unsafe" to me. If the ID is approved by the Government, then will the Government say who has, and who does not have, the freedom to be online?

What about all those sites that act as watchdogs for the Government? Would the oh-so-fair and impartial National ID Squad, set up by the Government to oversee the distribution and monitoring of the Net ID, just refuse to let any anti-government, non-approved sites to have access to the web?

Is this just another way for the Government to control the internet?

Having the Government "secure" the net sounds a bit like having the fox guard the hen house!
